important information regarding trail
Paddle across Moon Lake to Panhandle Bayou, then turn left and continue on the bayou toward Horseshoe Lake. You can paddle as far up Horseshoe Lake as you'd like before returning to Moon Lake. This is an out-and-back paddle, best suited for when the Ouachita River is above pool stage. At lower water levels, portage may be required. Expect some current between Moon Lake and Horseshoe Lake via Panhandle Bayou - keep this in mind when planning your route. Shade is limited along this paddle, so plan accordingly in hot or sunny conditions. If the river stage is high, consider paddling a loop around Moon Lake instead - this option has minimal to no current if you avoid the river and bayou. Always respect all wildlife and fellow sportsmen. Approximate Distance: 5+ miles
