Black Bayou Eagle's Nest Paddle Trail
Established in 1997, Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge serves as a vital sanctuary for diverse plant and animal life. Despite being surrounded by the suburban growth of Monroe, the refuge preserves multiple habitat types, offering a rich and thriving ecosystem. Created to support wetland conservation and uphold international migratory bird treaties, the refuge plays a crucial role in protecting these natural resources. At its heart lies Black Bayou Lake, a stunning 1,500-acre expanse of shallow water dotted with majestic Bald Cypress and Water Tupelo trees, providing a serene and picturesque environment for wildlife and visitors alike.
