Changing Lives Through Therapy, Leadership, and Creativity
Outside the Lines Original: Melanie Massey Groves
March is Women’s History Month, and there’s no better time to shine a light on local powerhouse Melanie Massey Groves. She’s not just a business owner—she’s a game-changer. From running a thriving physical therapy practice to leading personal growth programs and sparking creativity through art, Melanie has made a lasting impact on Monroe-West Monroe.
From a Big Heart to a Big Business
Melanie’s journey started with a simple desire: to help kids like Josh, a boy she grew up with who had cerebral palsy. She saw how he longed to be included in everyday fun but didn’t have the support he needed. That was the spark.
“I decided I was going to pioneer that up here (North Louisiana). I was going to be the person who could get that started,” she remembers.
Without much money or resources, she got creative and started bartering for office space, handwriting insurance claims, and hustling to get doctors on board. Fast forward, and what started as a small operation has grown into five locations with over 100,000 patient visits a year. Today, Melanie Massey Physical Therapy serves all ages, helping people regain mobility and independence every single day.
A Passion for Leadership
As her practice grew, Melanie realized something: leadership isn’t just about running a business—it’s about lifting others up. That’s what led her to start Moco Leadership, a program designed to help people discover their strengths and become better leaders.
Her leadership philosophy was deeply influenced by John Maxwell, a globally recognized expert on leadership and personal development. She became a certified Maxwell coach and has had the opportunity to work directly with him, even contributing her creativity to Maxwell’s leadership events.

Her philosophy is simple: “Secure leaders empower others. If you are secure enough to believe that other people can lead just as well as you, if not better, you will grow your business, your team, and your legacy.”
Now, she works with everyone from small businesses to local government teams, helping them lead with confidence and purpose. Through her work with Moco Leadership, she has created a space where individuals can develop their strengths, build meaningful connections, and learn to lead with vision and integrity.

Bringing Creativity to Life
For Melanie, leadership and creativity go hand in hand. That’s where Mojoy Studio comes in. What started as art classes in her backyard has turned into a full-blown creative space where kids and adults can express themselves and grow.
“We believe that we are created in the image of God and we were created to be creative, just like He is,” she says.
At Mojoy Studio, it’s not about making perfect art—it’s about the process. Whether it’s kids learning new techniques or adults using art as a tool for personal development, Melanie’s studio is all about unlocking creative potential in a fun, relaxed way.

What’s Next?
If there’s one thing Melanie doesn’t do, it’s stand still. She’s always looking ahead, always finding new ways to make a difference. Whether it’s expanding her therapy services, working with new leadership clients, or dreaming up the next big thing for Mojoy, she’s all in.
“I just have to make that the right decision, and then I can’t start thinking about all the things that maybe would have happened if I hadn’t done it,” she says.
Melanie’s story is proof that one person really can make a difference. Her drive, her heart for people, and her fearless approach to business are inspiring, and as we celebrate Women’s History Month, she stands out as someone who is shaping the future—one life at a time.
