Outside the Lines Original: Mark Elliot

A few years ago Mark Elliot looked around and realized his hometown was filled with beautiful waterways, but there weren't many ways to access them. He came up with the idea to start a paddleboard and kayak shop. He wanted outdoor paddling adventures to be more accessible for locals and visitors alike. H2GO Paddle Shop was born!
We've seen a tremendous increase since our inception in 2016. We see a bright future for it. More and more people are getting the opportunity to get out and try paddling.

Mark recommends different paddling locations for different personalities. For spotting wildlife and being surrounded by scenic nature views, he says Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge is a great spot. For an athletic challenge, and likely a more intermediate skill set, he recommends the Ouachita River where you can cover anywhere from 11 to 20 miles depending where you put in. To paddle past beautiful homes and the University of Louisiana at Monroe, he suggests Bayou Desiard.

We're in the process of beginning tours, so folks that are wanting to come in and have a guided tour, we'll have that feature available so you don't have to go alone. We can show you pointers on paddling techniques and safety so you can completely feel comfortable while you're out on the water.

For those who love paddling in a group, check out H2GO's monthly events. Friday Night Lights is a group paddle that takes place during the summer at Black Bayou Lake National Wildlife Refuge to catch the sunset. Plus, catch local competition events on the Ouachita River, like kayak races and kayak fishing tournaments.
