Outside the Lines Original: Honey Hole Tackle Shop
Connected by the Ouachita River and surrounded by many other waterways, lakes, and bayous, Monroe-West Monroe is a fisherman’s paradise. From bass tournaments to catfishing, there's no shortage of fun to be had on the waters of the twin cities. For over 30 years, a staple in the fishing community has been the local family-owned fishing supply store, the Honey Hole Tackle Shop of West Monroe.
What used to be an old 7-Eleven gas station is now a tackle store stocked with enough gear, bait, and apparel for every kind of fishing fanatic. The Honey Hole Tackle Shop was originally established by founder Bobby Phillips in 1991 as a small tackle shop and fishing supply store. In 2004, the store was sold to David Owen and his wife Janice. For the last 19 years, David has combined his favorite hobby with his career and brought his passion for fishing into the community.
David tells us, “I've loved fishing my entire life and when I'm not fishing, I like talking about fishing. So, what better way to get to enjoy what I love, than running a bait and tackle shop? I love making sure our customers have exactly what they are looking for before they hit the water. I always strive to make sure our customers know that when they come to The Honey Hole, they can count on me to have what they need.”
While the tackle shop itself operates in West Monroe, their clothing line ‘Honey Hole Outdoors’ has expanded to locations all over the nation. With over 300 stores selling hats, shirts, and hoodies created by Drew Tyner, the son-in-law of the store owners. Besides having a wide selection of outdoor products and attire, The Honey Hole has remained a piece of West Monroe’s heart for many years by offering a kind and reliable service to their hometown. The son of the owners, John David Owen, works in the store and explains their love for the local community.
“We are North Louisiana's one stop shop for all things fishing. Bass, Crappie, Bream, Catfish, anything you are trying to catch you can get everything you need here, with a local touch and a staff that is knowledgeable and friendly. We love our community and love helping our friends and neighbors get outside and enjoy God's gift of fishing.” John David says.
Explore the Honey Hole Tackle Shop to find that local charm and get all your fishing gear together for the year. The store is open Monday-Saturday 6am-6pm, gone fishing on Sundays! You can also check out their apparel on their website honeyholeshop.com.
