Kid Friendly Activities in Monroe-West Monroe
As a mom, I’m always on the lookout for out-of-the-ordinary things to do with my family that our area has to offer. There are, oh, so many opportunities for family fun here - a plethora of them being playgrounds, trampoline parks, arcades, and then some! But besides places to burn off lots of energy, there are several fun yet enriching opportunities in Monroe-West Monroe for the whole family that can be educational as well, and here are a few of our family’s faves:
A place to explore. Besides the hidden treasure of beauty that is Black Bayou Lake, we love that the NWR offers free monthly programs for kids to learn about inhabitants of the refuge such as frogs, birds, bats, snakes, turtles, and alligators! They also often offer guided hikes to explore the nature seen or heard on the walks. Also be sure, on any given visit, to find and complete the Challenge Trail so you can see how your hops, leaps, or climbs compare to wildlife’s!
A place to dream. The Northeast Louisiana Children’s Museum is not just an amazing place for kids to play; what I love so much about it is that kids can dream about the possibilities of what they can become by sliding down a pole like a fireman, cleaning teeth in a giant mouth like a dental hygienist, examining x-rays like a doctor, caring for babies like a nurse, cooking or serving meals at the café, or sitting in the Oval Office as President or Secret Service agent!
A place to appreciate. Masur Museum of Art may not initially sound like a place for kids, but it truly is kid-friendly! During the course of an exhibition, the museum will offer a scavenger hunt for children to complete by searching for clues while appreciating the artwork. Once completed, they can trade it for a small prize which could be anything from Masur swag to crafts to put together at home. Also, don’t leave without letting them play in the kids’ art exploration gallery!
A place to discover. The Ouachita Parish Public Library’s ten physical branches give so many opportunities to discover free family fun most days of the week! Though books are a wonderful outlet for all ages, the library is not “just books”. Our family has not only attended countless story times over the years; we’ve also watched movies, played board games, had stuffed animal sleepovers, made snacks, hunted eggs at Easter, and so much more - all at the library!
