Celebrate Your BFF: A Best Friends' Guide to Monroe-West Monroe
June 8th is National Best Friends day! It is the day to celebrate with the one who cheers you on, makes you laugh, and will tell you the truth about what those new jeans look like from behind. We are, Caroline & Emily (@twoacesonthego), two best friends who love exploring NELA together. Our favorite Saturdays are usually spent roaming around Monroe and West Monroe visiting our tried and true favorites while adding in some new local discoveries. Our strategy is to pick out a couple of activities from the categories below (depending on your time constraints) and fall in love with being active participants in the community right around you! Most are kid friendly if your mini besties are tagging along too.
Get active! Burning calories is always easier and more fun with a good friend! Start the day with a walk around the West Monroe Highland Wetlands Trail or Kiroli Park! When life gets too crazy nothing can make you feel better than a walk with your bestie while you hash it all out. Need to vent about your week? Savage Axe is fun and cathartic. You will definitely have a blast and tone your arms at the same time!
Get a meal! We are personally suckers for brunch! Combining breakfast and lunch just feels like something special and the Bananas Foster French Toast at Delta Biscuit Company reigns
supreme. The peach ice cream at Indian Village Harvest Farms is the best sweet treat for the middle of your day. If you are looking for a dinner spot, we recommend Warehouse No 1. We celebrate every friendiversary there!
Get shopping! Stroll the shops on Antique Alley! You truly never know what you will find. The Trove in Monroe and The Makery in West Monroe are two of our newest favorite Saturday spots for local and unique items!
Get to the fun! Our absolute favorite best friend bonding activity is an escape room and in our expert opinion our local Southern Escape Room is one of the best! You can learn so much about your friendship by trying to escape together! If escaping is too much pressure you can unwind with locally made wine or cider and listen to live music on Saturday afternoons at the Thirsty Farmer in Calhoun. We also support keeping the fun simple! Bring a deck of cards and play your favorite game over a cup of coffee at Seventh Square Coffee.
